A new Lutheran Church meeting at Crescent School in Greeneville on the second Sunday of each month.

Why a new Lutheran Church in Greeneville?
Some of the first people to call Greeneville home called themselves Lutheran. Look around our community today - some of our oldest buildings are Lutheran churches. These early residents prized the truth that we are saved by grace through faith as revealed in Scripture. They had a strong sacramentology and believed that the church is a historic and unchanging institution founded by Christ himself.

While the name “Lutheran” continues in many churches, sadly the things that Lutherans originally believed and taught have changed in many churches that still have that name.

The Lutheran Church in Greeneville, by the grace of God, is seeking to bring biblical Lutheranism back to our community.

Our Plan

The Lutheran Church in Greeneville is a mission partnership of Living Promise in Morristown and Living Word in Johnson City.

Step one is to first meet monthly and gather interest and momentum.

Step two is to call our own, full-time pastor to serve our growing congregation.

Step three is construct a place of worship here in our community.

We would love for you to be a part of this plan. While the timing, details, and results are known and given only by God, we are confident in his goodness and promises to us.

Meet Our Pastors

Andrew Stuebs was born in Yankton, SD, on November 2nd, 1989, the youngest of seven children. He grew up in Platteville, Wisconsin, the son of Pastor Paul and Carol Stuebs.
Pastor Stuebs graduated from Luther Preparatory School in 2008 and Martin Luther College in 2012. It was during his time at MLC that he met his wife Laura (Spaude), from Antigo, WI. Andrew and Laura were married on June 2nd, 2012 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Onalaska, WI.
Andrew and Laura lived in Cedarburg, Wisconsin for their first two years of marriage while Andrew attended Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. During those years, Laura used her degree to teach K4 at Word of Life Lutheran School in Milwaukee, WI.  During his seminary years, Pastor Stuebs served as a vicar at Grace Lutheran Church in Glendale, AZ. Pastor Stuebs was assigned to Living Word Lutheran Church in Johnson City, TN on June 16th, 2016.

Andrew and Laura have been married for 13 years (June 2nd, 2012). They have been blessed with three children: Olivia (10), Eliana (8), Silas (5) and Madelyn (3).

At Living Word, Pastor Stuebs looks forward to ministry and leading all people to a higher focus on Christ, their only true source of salvation and happiness. And sharing Him with others!

Pastor Matt Westra grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio where his father serves as a pastor. His mother works as a nurse and together they raised Matt and his younger brother and sister. He attended Martin Luther College where he pursued his B.A. in Pre-Seminary Studies and graduated in 2007. He then continued his education at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary and graduated in 2011. He has completed internships at churches in Tucson, Arizona and in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In August of 2010, Pastor Westra was married to his wonderful bride Rachel. Rachel graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran College in 2009 with a degree in art and enjoys using her abilities to serve God in whatever way she can. They have three mostly wonderful children, Noelle, Andrew, and Avery.

Together they enjoy many outdoor activities: hiking, camping, running and anything that gets them out into God’s beautiful creation are activities that they can be found doing together. Pastor Matt Westra loves the privilege of sharing the message of Jesus in East Tennessee. He looks forward to meeting all the members of the community so please don't be afraid to visit with us sometime or give him a call.
